So what have I learned following this weekend?
A 1,1 kilo burger is just fucked up!
Swimming against the current of a raging Icelandic mountain river is harder than
one would think.
Canyoning is fun!!
What is canyoning you ask? Well, I think I'll borrow a section from the webpage of the good people of Arctic Rafting:
"Climbing up waterfalls, swimming in the lazy current of underground rivers and jumping of cliffs is all in a days work when you go canyoning!"
Since our good friend Bragi is getting married in just under a week, a few of us decided to treat him to a special day. None of that weekend in Vegas, snorting coke of a stripper's breasts and then burying said stripper in the desert when she "accidentally" trips and breaks her skull nonsense for us. No, instead we first took him on a small hike up a local hill/mountain called Úlfarsfell, to get his appetite up.

The reason for that became quite evident when we treated him to the biggest hamburger I've ever seen, all 1.1 kilos of it (more than 2 pounds for you Yanquis out there :) The restaurant offered the burger gratis to anyone who could finish it in 10 minutes or less. Bragi managed just under 50% before admitting defeat.

After the burger extravaganza, we met up with some more folks and headed out of town, arriving at Bleiká (Pink River) where, after suiting up in very flattering wetsuits, we proceeded to climb up canyons, swim under waterfalls and then sliding, jumping and generally tossing ourselves off said waterfalls. It was, in a word, awesome! Unfortunately I lacked a waterproof camera so you'll have to make do with the pics following the wetness.

In addition, now, two days later, my stupid muscles are catching up and my hands shriek in protest (all that rope-pulling takes it's toll). After the rafting adventure we headed back to Reykjavík where we ate a hearty dinner before hitting the town in search of alcohol to imbibe.
To paraphrase Hamlet: The rest is hazy......

He could have eaten the burger off the stripper's tits, you know!
2 lbs...boo. Any overweight American male could do that! LOL No, I am not proud of that fact. Anyway, are ALL the bars in Reykjavik that packed in the summer? Hey-zeus!!! I need to start practicing battling my way through crowds to get to the bar...especially because I am planning on meeting up with all y'all at Prikith at the end of August...-J

Re: He could have eaten the burger off the stripper's tits, you know!
Yeah, we're lightweight in the 2lb burger consumption department :)This was a fairly typical Saturday night at Prikið which is why I like the place better during the week. Can't wait to have you guys over.

Why is it that all Icelandic guys seem to look like rugged unshaven landsmen who follow herd migrations and live with wolves for a living??? ;)
I'm so fucking jealous.
