Defrosting the fridge on a sunday afternoon
My fridge

I got you more than a year ago
And my oh my how I loved you so
You chilled my drinks and cooled my milk
You were the best fridge of your ilk

For months on end, you kept your cool
But I ignored the golden rule
To defrost you and trim the ice
And now I pay a heavy price

Your icebox has no space no more
I should have done this months before
For now my fingers feel quite numb
And myself I feel so very dumb

I’ll take this lesson to my heart
To care for you and play my part
To defrost you with greater regularity
Before the ice condenses and forms an all-enveloping, all-encompassing, light-swallowing singularity

And so my fridge, I make this wow
To heed your warning, starting now
I’ll trim your ice until I’m grey and old
And you will keep my Thule cold
